PYROSLEEVE - FIRESLEEVES (250 - 1200°C):

Silicone Coated Glass Fibre Sleevings

Firesleeve (branded Pyrosleeve) manufactured by Pyroglass Ltd, is a premium high-temperature fire protection sleeve engineered and manufactured in the UK.

Produced from specialist texturised E-glass fibre yarn, knitted into a durable sleeve and coated with a high-grade silicone elastomer rubber,

Pyrosleeve provides reliable thermal insulation and protection for hoses, cables, wires, hydraulic lines and industrial pipework operating in extreme environments.

Designed for demanding industrial applications, our firesleeve offers continuous temperature resistance up to 250°C

and protects against intermittent exposure to molten metal splash at temperatures of up to 1200°C.

Its robust construction helps safeguard critical components from intense heat, flames and radiant energy, reducing the risk of equipment failure and extending service life.

Manufactured to the highest quality standards in the UK, Pyroglass Pyrosleeve is highly resistant to oils, hydraulic fluids, fuels, acids and alkalis, making it the preferred firesleeve solution for industries including steel production, foundries, automotive, rail, aerospace, marine, mining, power generation and heavy engineering.

Whether protecting hydraulic hose assemblies, electrical cables or industrial pipework,

Pyrosleeve delivers dependable fire protection and long-lasting performance in the most challenging operating conditions.

PYROSLEEVE - FIRESLEEVE Applications

Our Firesleeves support BS EN 45545-2:2020+A1:2023 European fire safety requirements for materials and components used in railway vehicles, by protecting critical components such as electrical cables, fuel lines and hydraulic hoses in rail locomotives, tunnel systems, subways and underground transport from heat, spark and fire exposure in confined spaces.

Additional applications include:

  • Protecting hydraulic hoses and cables in MSHA-regulated mining environments
  • Protecting hydraulic hoses & electrical cable harnesses in steel works and foundries
  • Protecting vital wind turbine fire suppression components
  • Protecting hose & cable assemblies from molten metal splashes
  • Protecting personnel from burns when working near hot gases, steam lines etc.

Our Firesleeves also support:

  • Strict maritime fire safety regulations for vessels such as The Merchant Shipping (Fire Protection) Regulations 2023 / SOLAS Standards for fire detection and compliance with Boat Safety Scheme (BSS) standards
  • Offshore Installations (Prevention of Fire and Explosion and Emergency Response) Regulations 1995 (PFEER) and the Offshore Installations (Offshore Safety Directive) Regulations 2015 (SCR 2015)

  Firesleeve Certification:

  • Accepted by MSHA (Acceptance Number: IC-0413/0001) – ASTP 5007
  • Rated V-0 for flammability: UL94 / IEC 60695-11-10 Test Method
  • BS EN 45545-2:2020+A1:2023 European fire safety requirements for materials and components used in railway vehicles
  • BS EN ISO 4589-2:2017 Determination of Burning Behaviour by Oxygen Index
  • ISO 5659:2026 Smoke Generation - Determination of Optical Density
  • NV X 70-100-1: 2006 & NF X 70-100-2: 2006 – Quantitative Analysis of Gases Produced Under Specific Conditions of Thermal Degradation in the Presence of Air

  • What temperature will glass fibre seals operate at?

Depending upon the application glass fibre seals are capable of withstanding 600°C

  • Do you have any products which operate at temperatures > 600°?

Yes, we do have certain special materials - please contact our Sales Dept. to discuss.

  • What is your order processing time?

It depends upon the product(s) and quantity needed. We are a manufacturer so there is usually a production lead time.

For most orders we can turn them around within 10-12 working days but it is always a good idea to check with us first. Lead times can also vary according to the time of year.  In the heating season we do get very busy.

  • What temperature will the adhesive backing on glass fibre seals/tapes withstand?

The adhesive backing is purely a 'fixing aid' during assembly. The adhesive backing will degrade at temperatures of 180°C or above but has served its purpose once the glass fibre seal/tape is held in place by some other mechanical means.

  • What is the best way to start to remove the amber release film at the beginning of the roll of adhesive backed product?

Sometimes it can be a little fiddly to start but there is a technique and if you contact our Sales Dept. we can provide a detailed instruction.

  • What is the difference between a 'woven' and a 'knitted' tape?

Woven tapes are constructed with warp and weft threads in an over and under construction whereas knitted tapes are formed with a series of interlocking 'loops' like a knitted sweater.

  • Which is better 'knitted' or 'woven' tape?

Woven tapes are often less flexible than knitted tapes. It depends upon the application as to which is considered better. Knitted tapes are very soft and conformable. They bed down well and are  perfect for taping awkward shapes. Both woven and knitted tapes have their place.

  • How do I prevent the end of a glass fibre seal or tape from fraying when cut?

We recommend the use of our adhesive backed glass cloth tapes for end sealing.

  • How many turns of adhesive glass cloth tape should I apply to the seal?

We recommend one and a half turns as a minimum.

  • What can I use on the ends of the firesleeve when it is cut?

We recommend our silicone rubber self-amalgamating tape to seal the end.
